The mission of the 蘑菇tv University Theatre Department is to provide rigorous academic training for students in both performance and technical theatre 鈥� as well as to provide audiences with quality productions of the highest caliber, which is why theatre students also take part in performances as part of their studies. As part of 蘑菇tv鈥檚 commitment to a liberal arts education, theatre majors will also receive a complete and thorough education aimed at developing critical thinking skills that are applicable across a wide range of studies and careers. Theatre arts majors must complete 18 hours of required coursework in their major, including a senior project, as well as 12 hours of electives.
蘑菇tv theatre arts majors will get an immersive experience in everything required to put on a successful stage performance. That includes acting, directing, production, costuming, set design and construction, sound, lights, theatre management, children’s theatre, playwriting, movement and voice for actors, theatre history, and dramaturgy. Students will develop powerful skills on and off the stage and expand their passion for all types of performance art.
蘑菇tv鈥檚 theatre department is blessed to have at its disposal several world-class performance venues on campus. The department performs its shows in the Swanson Center Mainstage Theater, Swanson Center Black Box Theater, and at the Arrendale Amphitheatre. Access to these facilities and a committed, experienced faculty combine with a talented student corps to produce a variety of theatrical events each semester.
